According to the 'canon': Revan is male and the Exile is female. They made it so you can play either of those characters as either sex, but I read that on one of the forums somewhere.

Yes, canon states that Revan is male. I personally hate that. I mean, why give the option for the player to have a female Revan if you're going to make canon Revan male? Boo on you, Lucas Arts.

Personally, I think it's quite likely that Malak was at least attracted to a female Revan. I mean.. What guy wouldn't be attracted to a confident, powerful woman who mocks/teases him endlessly?

Yes, someway I meant the same. A man wouldn't treat an attractive, powerful and strong woman like he would treat a man, would he? But it is never expressed in any way in the game, which is a pity.

Well to me, the Exile feels to be male too, but maybe this is only me. Maybe it comes to be that except Lara Croft, every video game protagonist seems somewhat male to me.

Part of it might be because Malak has a canon love interest supposibly. Even if the girl has no interest in him that way.

Most games generally try to make everything gender neutral. Which is a bit of a shame. I wish more games would explore the "pretending to seduce some male to accomplish their goals" type angle. But then again, I tend to play more rogue like characters. Laughing

I think there are some games that accurately portray how people would act towards other females. But there aren't a whole lot of them. As much as we like to say that women are treated equal to men, I think we can all agree that the dynamics involved are different.(Like.. Leliana's shoe conversation in DA. But I don't know if male PCs get it too.)

Yes, I agree on that. About neutrality. It may be a fair experience for either a female or male character, and it may save some time for the developers (and thus: costs). But often it is unrealistic. Because in reality, we do treat men and women differently.

Well of course I understand Malak would not see a love interest in Revan, but he would treat a female Revan different than a male, wouldn't he? It seems just so likely to me. Just to draw an analogy: in an office, a male employee would treat a female boss differently than a male boss. And thus, I would have expected a different reaction of Malak to a female Revan than a male. But in conversation, Malak seemed to react as if Revan was utterly male. It didn't feel to me as if Revan was neutral to Malak, it sounded quite male. I don't know if it's just me.

Leliana in DA is actually a very good example. She actually treats you differently whether you're male or female. I can't confirm the thing with the shoes, but as far as I know, she will not compliment on your hair when you're male (or will she? Needs confirmation). Yet such little things make the difference.

You get the shoe conversation as a male, but not the hair conversation.

Honestly, I'm not too miffed at the "Revan is male" canon. I don't think it really makes much of a difference, except to who you romance.

As for Malak treating an f!Revan differently in KOTOR - I don't know. I think it'd be a little strange for Malak to treat an f!Revan any more differently than a male. Male or female, both Revans are the same to him at that point - just another person he betrayed.

Hm. Malak seems to treat Bastila as a female. But from your point of view, it doesn't make a difference - because she is just another person he took advantage of.

I didn't mean it has some consequences for the game or storyline itself. Indeed it hasn't. It would only make the game "more" credible than it is now. By which I don't mean the game isn't credible itself.

I know what you're thinking. "It's only a game!" I know.
