Decent game, terrible romances. Seriously, I couldn't stand Kaiden or Ashley so I ended up with Liara by default. None of the relationships were really very interesting though. I would have liked an opportunity with Joker! After playing Dragon Age first I think perhaps I'm just spoiled.
I never used Kaiden or Ashley in my party, so it didn't matter who I killed off. My group was always Tali and Liara and I have to say Liara kicked ass with her throw, lift and singularity abilities maxed.
I'm still looking forward to the next Mass Effect, I hear the relationships are much better.
Still think that? I for one found the relationships in ME2 even worse!

Kinda same here - since Dragon Age was awsome, I've decided to give ME a go. And I am disappointed, even tho I'm fresh outta prologue. Maybe it's just his voice (now that I know he has the same voice actor as Carth it explains a lot) but he gives me a knee-jerk reaction from the first sight. Maybe I won't save him at all

I'll be honest, I liked Kaidan more in ME2. His part is smaller, and he is a bit of a dick, but at least he seems to have grown a backbone.
(and the new black armor doesn't hurt either)

lol - I was so hurt when he threw those accusations at my Sheperd. Kept wanting to run into him again and explain myself. So when it came down to the in game romances in ME2, I didn't do them. So during the cut scene where I assume you make it with your LI, I was staring at a pic of Kaiden instead. lol - kinda pathetic, I know. But my Shep liked the guy, goofy as he was.
Need to do another run through and romance the assassin - he was interesting.

Well...the "romance scene" with the assassin was kinda disapointing-but I still have yet to chose the "stare longingly at the photograph of Kaidan" thing either.
I would much rather forgo a voiced PC for more interactions with the squad (for both ME and ME2).

Well, ME 2 is much more shooter than rpg. I liked the balance they had in the first one, but apparently they decided to change that up. I admit, I still liked ME2, although the ending left me in a WTF? kind of state.
I like the voiced pc. I think it's kinda fun picking a dialogue option and not really knowing what's gonna come out of your pc's mouth. lol
